LayerZero Targets Exchanges, Solana Tightens Issuance, and Cronos Halts After an Exploit

Crypto infrastructure is pressing further into territory usually handled by exchanges, banks and market utilities. Trading systems are being rebuilt around onchain settlement, token economics are being reconsidered through governance, and stablecoins are moving closer to everyday financial distribution.
At the same time, the operational cost of getting these systems wrong remains high. Quantum security is moving from theory into roadmaps, while recent exploits show that collateral manipulation, shared-code vulnerabilities and weak incident assessment can still overwhelm newer infrastructure.
LayerZero Builds for the Exchange Layer
LayerZero introduced ATLAS as infrastructure for trading venues rather than another consumer-facing exchange. Built on the Zero blockchain, it is intended to provide trading, clearing, settlement and risk-management functions beneath exchange products. Spot markets, perpetuals, tokenized equities, commodities and prediction markets could all use the same underlying stack while operators keep their own front ends.
The model tackles a practical problem. A new venue may have distribution and a strong user interface, but building matching, settlement and risk systems from scratch is expensive and difficult. ATLAS is effectively trying to separate the exchange interface from the machinery beneath it.
That could lower the barrier to launching new markets, especially for firms that want blockchain settlement without building the full architecture internally. The trade-off is concentration risk. If many venues depend on the same system, a technical failure can affect businesses that appear independent to users. Reliability under heavy trading conditions will matter more than the number of markets ATLAS can support.
Solana Votes to Cut Issuance Faster
Solana's first network-wide governance vote narrowly approved a proposal to double the pace at which new SOL issuance declines. Voting remained competitive until late in the process, with validators connected to Kraken and Galaxy changing positions before the proposal passed.
The economic effect is straightforward: new supply should fall faster than under the previous schedule. For holders, that creates a tighter issuance path. For validators, lower issuance changes the economics of running infrastructure because inflation rewards remain part of the incentive to secure the network.
The vote itself matters as much as the supply decision. Token-economic changes are often described as community governance, but validator influence can be decisive when results are close. Solana has now shown that network-wide voting can produce a binding outcome while also exposing how much weight large operators can carry when participation margins are narrow.
Ripple Starts Preparing XRP Ledger for Quantum Risk
Ripple outlined a four-stage plan to prepare XRP Ledger for a future in which quantum computers could threaten current cryptographic systems. The roadmap starts with identifying vulnerable components, then moves through testing and parallel deployment of quantum-resistant alternatives. It also includes an emergency route if quantum capabilities advance faster than expected.
There is no immediate quantum crisis for blockchains, but changing cryptography across a live network cannot safely be improvised. Wallets, signatures, custody systems and user behavior all need time to migrate.
The hard part will be coordination. A protection scheme works only if exchanges, custodians, wallets, validators and users can move without breaking compatibility or leaving large pools of funds exposed. Ripple's plan is therefore less about a breakthrough today and more about reducing the risk of a rushed response later.
Revolut Pushes a Euro Stablecoin Into Retail Finance
Revolut began rolling out EURR, its first euro-backed stablecoin, to selected customers in Denmark, Poland and Portugal. The token is issued through the Luxembourg entity of Bridge, the stablecoin infrastructure company owned by Stripe, and is expected to operate across several blockchains before broader EEA expansion.
The interesting part is distribution. Stablecoins have largely grown through exchanges, trading firms, DeFi and dollar-based payments. Revolut already sits inside the daily financial habits of mainstream users. That gives EURR a route into an existing customer base rather than forcing users to open a crypto-native account first.
A euro product also offers a different use case from the dollar-dominated stablecoin sector. Adoption will depend on what users can actually do with EURR, how easily it moves between networks and whether merchants or financial applications accept it. Issuance gets the product into circulation; utility will decide whether it becomes useful beyond the app.
Ethena Reworks How Value Flows to ENA
The Ethena Foundation proposed a broad restructuring of ENA token economics, including purchases of locked tokens from certain early investors and an end to future monthly investor unlocks. The headline proposal is a fee switch that could eventually direct 95% of net foundation revenue into ENA buybacks once USDe reaches specified supply milestones.
That would tie ENA more directly to the economics of the ecosystem. The token has largely functioned as a governance and incentive asset, while USDe sits at the center of Ethena's product model. Redirecting revenue toward buybacks would give holders a clearer link to business performance, assuming the required conditions are met.
The proposal also addresses a familiar crypto problem: token supply can expand faster than demand when investor unlocks continue month after month. Ending scheduled unlocks may reduce one source of selling pressure, but buybacks do not remove the system's underlying risks. Revenue depends on activity and market conditions, while USDe relies on careful management of collateral, counterparties and hedging. Token design can improve incentives, but it cannot replace risk controls.
Cosmos Pays for an Earlier Security Misjudgment
Cosmos Labs said attackers exploited a flaw in shared Cosmos software across six blockchains, with roughly $5.7 million in tokens ultimately sold. More seriously, a researcher had already reported the vulnerability in April. Developers patched the issue but concluded that live networks were not exposed, so no broader security warning was issued.
That turns the incident from a normal software bug into a failure of risk assessment. Shared components save development time and let ecosystems reuse tested code, but they can also multiply damage when a vulnerability is misunderstood. One wrong assumption can affect several networks at once.
For infrastructure teams, receiving a bug report is not enough. They need to know where the code is deployed, who depends on it and whether downstream projects understand their exposure. The loss was contained compared with the largest crypto hacks, but the sequence is uncomfortable because the warning arrived before the attack.
Cronos Stops the Network After Tectonic Attack
The Crypto.com-linked Cronos blockchain halted after a suspected attack on lending protocol Tectonic that an onchain researcher estimated at roughly $75 million. The reported method involved manipulating the price of thinly traded TONIC and then borrowing against the inflated collateral value. Around $6 million was reportedly bridged to Ethereum before the network was stopped, while Tectonic had not confirmed the full loss estimate.
The attack shows how DeFi lending security depends on market quality as much as smart-contract code. A protocol can behave exactly as designed and still be exploitable if it accepts weak collateral, relies on manipulable pricing or permits too much borrowing against an asset with little real liquidity.
Halting the chain may have limited further movement of funds, but it creates a different question around operational control. Emergency intervention can protect users, yet the ability to stop a network is itself centralized power. Crypto systems are expected to remain open during normal conditions, but users often expect someone to intervene when losses accelerate.
Bottom Line
The strongest theme across these stories is the attention being paid to the machinery behind crypto markets. Exchange infrastructure, monetary policy, stablecoin distribution, token economics and long-term cryptographic security are being treated as operating systems rather than side projects. That gives the industry better tools for competing with traditional financial platforms and supporting more demanding users.
The weak points are equally visible. Shared software can spread mistakes across networks, governance can hinge on a small number of large validators, token incentives still depend on real revenue, and lending protocols remain vulnerable when collateral liquidity is poor. Better products alone are not enough. Security review, market design, incident response and control over emergency powers still determine whether new infrastructure can be trusted when conditions turn difficult.
